Aim
The FAW/UEFA Pro Licence course is framed to prepare candidates to work as a modern-day manager or head coach. It is aimed at developing leadership and advanced interpersonal skills, in order to successfully implement a unique management style and philosophy. Pro Licence coaches are expected to develop advanced coaching techniques and the ability to work effectively in professional football.
About
The course is delivered through direct teaching methods, over a 14-month period, across x4 residential teaching blocks. Coaches are provided with a blend of teaching methods, including seminars, workshops and group tasks covering all aspects of coaching. Coaches also undertake bespoke study visits across professional football, the business sector, and other sports to provide opportunities to reflect, challenge and refine their management and leadership approaches.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the UEFA Pro Licence Course, Coaches will be able to;
- Reflect on your personal and professional attributes and understand how these influence your philosophy and practice.
- Better understand the complexities associated with elite football environments.
- Demonstrate advanced coaching, and analytical skills required for elite football performance.
- Better understand and apply principles associated with effective leadership and management.
Who the course is for?
To apply for the UEFA Pro Licence, applicants must meet the criteria detailed below.
Essential
- UEFA A Licence holder for a minimum of 12 months.
And a minimum of three years’ experience in one of the following roles;
- Head Coach in a professional league or Cymru Premier League
- First team coach in the professional game (daily contact with players)
- Coach of a national team
- Professional Phase Head Coach in full time professional club
- Academy Manager/ Head of Coaching in full time professional club
- Technical/ Sporting Director
Desirable
- Educated through the FAW Coach Education Programme
- Working in Wales at national league level, professional level, or with a national team
- Resident in Wales
- Born in Wales or have Welsh heritage
- Played at national league level or above

Application Process:
Stage 1.
To complete stage one of the application process please upload the following evidence to the Coach Education Learning Management System (LMS). After the initial registration, you will receive an automated email with login details for the LMS.
Please submit your application, enclosing the following:
- Covering letter
- CV
- Club support letter
- Copy of UEFA A Diploma
Deadline for completed applications: 12pm, Monday 13 October 2025.
All successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the decision by no later than Monday 27 October 2025.
Stage 2.
Stage 1 successful applicants will be required to attend a 30-minute zoom interview. Applicants will be required to prepare and deliver a presentation based on a technical scenario provided.
Interview window – Coach to deliver the task presentation to an interview panel and complete interview process: Monday 10 November – Friday 5 December 2025.
All successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the decision by no later than Friday 9 January 2026.
